Wincomm medical panel PC WMP-17 fulfills more Safety requirements

Hsinchu, Taiwan, October 30, 2009 – Wincomm introduced its WMP-17 medical panel late last year, it is an Intel Core 2 Duo all in one PC integrated with 17” LCD and optional resistive touch panel. With medical Safety 60601-1 compliance, anti-bacteria plastic housing/stand and IP65 front bezel, WMP-17 is a general purpose medical panel PC suitable for many medical environments such as general examination room, point of care station, nursing car terminal, clinical review station, patient side infotainment, emergency station, surgical room and ICU room.
With Intel low power Core 2 Duo 1.06 GHZ CPU and intelligent thermal management design, the fanless WMP-172 is quiet and reliable. For task heavy applications, WMP-171 is powered by high performance Intel Core 2 Duo 2.10 GHz processor with temperature monitoring & smart fan control.
While PCMCIA & CF/smart card reader and internal 2W speakers are standard for WMP-17, there are PCI & mini-PCI expansion slots to serve the needs of more diversified applications.

Besides general desktop usage, with the VESA mounting interface, the WMP-17 can be easily mounted to a simple pole mount, to a ceiling/wall mount swing arm, or integrated with a cart (nursing cart, medical treatment cart…etc), then frequently the WMP-17 will be moved around even during power-on. To ensure the hard disk drive can still operate normally, Wincomm has implemented an anti-vibration mechanism to firmly secure the HDD. But for some very critical applications, user will demand no moving-parts mass storage device to secure their valuable data. For such requirements, Wincomm can provide a non-volatile flash memory-based solid-state drive (SSD) as a good alternative. The SSD/flash drive is fully compatible with the standard 2.5” HDD with same mechanical form-factor and SATA interface, the flash memory capacity can be configured with 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 GB. With no mechanical and optical moving parts, the SSD is a rugged, reliable, power-saving and fast random access mass storage device.

TV card & camera module for point of care application
For patient bedside application, the WMP-17 can serve as a multi-purpose infotainment device. When the system is connected to hospital information network and with the help of touch panel integration, the patient’s electronic medical records / general treatment arrangement can be easily retrieved and updated on-site. For other time, the WMP-17’s PCI expansion slot can be added with a hybrid digital TV DVB-T / universal analog TV / FM radio / Video capture card to allow the patient to use it for leisure video & audio entertainment.
As for basic patient monitoring or video communication purpose, we also can integrate a camera module into the WMP-17 front bezel for video capturing. The camera module use a UXGA (1600x1200, 2 mega pixel) CMOS image sensor with USB 2.0 high-speed transceiver and auto focus function, it can send SVGA image at 30 frame rate per second to deliver smooth video picture.

Beside basic medical Safety 60601-1 compliance, Wincomm steps further to address more deliberate medical Safety requirements.
Medical Safety requests that the device cable connection should be firmly secured and well-protected to avoid any accidental disconnection. For this requirement, Wincomm designs an I/O cover to hide all the cable connection and also serves for cable management. At the I/O cover front side, we build in the microphone, line-out and microphone-in jack that user can connect and use those audio devices easily.
If other critical medical device is connected with the WMP-17 through serial communication port, to avoid any possible abnormal power or grounding interference to cause damage or malfunction, we can customize to design isolation protection for the com port(s).
Some hospitals request that every electronic device must be connected to the hospital’s common grounding terminal. For this requirement, we add on the connector bracket a DIN42801 compliant potential equalization plug connector for immediate grounding connection.
For AC power cord, we can provide North-American hospital grade power cord carry the “green dot” signifying that it has been designed and tested for grounding reliability, assembly integrity, strength and durability under the UL 817 regulations.
