Hsin-Chu, Taiwan, November 30, 2009 – After introduced its 1^st Intel Atom based full IP65 panel PC WTP-8865 series, Wincomm extends the Atom platform to another 15” panel PC,

the WLP-7820-15A.
By adapting the same WLP-7820-15 rugged metal enclosure, this new product also supports reliable fanless operation for up to 40° C ambient temperature.

Wincomm further designs an in-wall box case for the mounting of WLP-7820-15A and allow the installer to place the whole set into the wall with less than 10 mm protrudes from the wall.With the adding of touch panel, this in-wall WLP-7820-15A can be a very neat and flawless installation as an on-the-wall human machine interface (HMI) device for interactive point of information (POI) and computer Kiosk applications.

The in-wall box case

The in-wall box case is made of SECC (Steel, Electro-galvanized, Cold-rolled, Commercial quality) with 431 x 340 x 138 mm dimension (W x H x D) to accommodate an open frame WLP-7820-15A.
On the rear side and around the in-wall case, there are wall mounting holes that installer can utilize per his specific construction requirements. For cables routing arrangement, there are spacious

holes around the four rear corners.
On the rear center is a compartment for power adaptor fixing, the power on/off switch is located on the front lower right side. For decoration and protection purpose, Wincomm provides an aluminum frame that can be snapped in as a front bezel.
As the power on/off switch is hided behind the frame, it is recommended to use Wincomm remote device control (WRDM) software to do remote power-on and other controls through LAN/Internet connection. Further customization can be implemented such as to carve the frame with a small window for direct access to the power/on/off switch or to use a remote control.

The Intel Atom N270 platform

While the in-wall box provides a very neat and flawless installation, it also causes the system can only operate in a very close and narrow environment. As open space ambient air flow heat dissipation is almost impossible, it is very important to choose a platform with optimal balance of performance and thermal.

For this requirement, Wincomm chooses Intel’s latest Atom N270 1.6 GHz processor and Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset with the total thermal design power (TDP) is only 9 watts. The Atom N270 is implemented with 45nm process technology, Core-based micro-architecture w/ in-order instructions process, 16-stage longer pipeline, 128-bit internal data path for SSE instructions, Hyper-threading second virtual CPU technology, and enhanced low-power sleep states. All these latest technologies make the WLP-7820-15A a power-optimized system to deliver robust performance-per-watt and a perfect fit for in-wall box applications.

The WLP-7820-15A key features

The WLP-7820-15A supports 533MHz FSB, dual-channel 2GB DDR2-533 SRDAM memory, SATA 2.5” HDD w/ anti-vibration design. Wincomm’s application programs, Auto WDT watchdog timer, temperature monitoring with warming and underclocking, further secure the product usage and long term reliability.

For the integrated display, it is a 15 inch 4:3 1024x768 300 nits TFT LCD panel with 50,000 hours long life CCFL backlight. For touch application, Wincomm provides a resistive touch screen with 80% light transmission, anti-glare surface with 3H hardness and allows finger, glove and other stylus inputs.

Summary

In-wall box installation delivers a neat and flawless implementation of POI and computer Kiosk on the wall. Wincomm’s Atom based WLP-7820-15A fanless touch panel PC, device application programs and WRDM, together with the tailor-designed in-wall box case, provides a complete solution for this application.
